Beginning in the late 1960s,\u00a0<span class=\"markd4aqtnjk7\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Chaitin<\/span>\u00a0made contributions to\u00a0algorithmic information theory\u00a0and\u00a0metamathematics, in particular a computer-theoretic result equivalent to\u00a0G\u00f6del&#8217;s incompleteness theorem.\u00a0He is considered to be one of the founders of what is today known as algorithmic (Solomonoff\u2013Kolmogorov\u2013<span class=\"markd4aqtnjk7\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Chaitin<\/span>, Kolmogorov or program-size)\u00a0complexity\u00a0together with\u00a0Andrei Kolmogorov\u00a0and\u00a0Ray Solomonoff. Along with the works of e.g.\u00a0Solomonoff,\u00a0Kolmogorov,\u00a0Martin-L\u00f6f, and\u00a0Leonid Levin,\u00a0algorithmic information theory\u00a0became a foundational part of\u00a0theoretical computer science,\u00a0information theory, and\u00a0mathematical logic.\u00a0It is a common subject in several computer science curricula.
