A rare astronomical event, connected to education and research.
On August 2, 2027, the Moon's shadow will cross Northern Morocco during one of the most remarkable total solar eclipses of the century.
The Morocco Eclipse 2027 initiative connects UM6P, IAC, citizen scientists, schools and local communities around safe public observation, outreach and solar-science data collection.
For CPSE, the project is a strong example of how physical sciences, instrumentation, data and public engagement can meet around a national scientific moment.
What the project includes
Science, outreach and citizen participation.
Citizen Science Network
Trained volunteers and observation stations are planned along the eclipse path to support coordinated data collection.
UM6P SpaceBus
A mobile outreach effort brings eclipse science, safe observation and astronomy workshops to schools and communities.
Data & Science
The project aims to document the solar corona through coordinated observations and an open scientific archive.
Solar observation safety
Never look directly at the Sun without proper solar filters. Safe viewing requires certified eclipse glasses or approved solar-viewing equipment, except during the precise moments of totality when the Sun is fully covered.
Eclipse day timing
Key phases on August 2, 2027.
Partial eclipse begins
The Moon starts crossing the solar disc. Eye protection is required.
Totality begins
The Sun is fully covered and the solar corona becomes visible.
Totality ends
Solar filters are needed again as soon as the bright Sun returns.
Partial eclipse ends
The local eclipse event concludes.
